HIRANYAKA Hiranyaka, a Rat was living in monastery nearby. It was very intelligent and was kind towards its fellow-beings. It could not bear any insult. It used to help others whenever they were in troubles. A number of ascetics were living in that monastery. Chudaakarna was one among them. He used to hang his bag to a wooden stick in the house. Rice, vegetables and other items that people give him as alms were kept in that bag. Hiranyaka used to steal various items, to eat from his bag. Regularly it was carrying the items to its hole and was eating them there. It even piled a lot of items in its hole. In course of time, Hiranyaka became very rich when compared with other rats. One day Chudaakarna realized that Hiranyaka had been eating and stealing away the items from his bag. Hence, he wanted to stop it and teach a lesson to it.
