MOTHER - MAXIM GORKY

Maxim Gorky (1868-1936), the great Russian whiter and founder of Soviet literature, wrote this book over half a century ago. But even today it is dear to the hearts of all who are concerned about the happiness of their people. On Gorky's own testimony, the story was written about real-life events. It was based on a May Day demonstration in the town of Sormovo in 1902 and on the subsequent trial of those who had taken part. The key figures - Pyatr Zalomov, a worker at the Sormovo factory, and his mother Anna Kirillovna were the prototypes for the principal characters in the book Maxim Gorky's "Mother" has been enormously popular with Soviet and foreign readers for many decades. It has been published in large editions and translated into many languages.
