SEA FOOD A WONDERFUL HEALTH FOOD FOR HUMANS

The author Dr. Syed Ahamad Ali worked as the Principal Scientist and Head of the Nutrition and Feed Technology Department of the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai belonging to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.. After obtaining Master's Degree in Food and Drug Chemistry from Andhra University, Waltair (Visakhapatnam) Dr. Ahamad Ali Joined the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru of CSIR as Scientific Assistant. After selection through the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Dr. Ali joined the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) at Cochin. It was here Dr. Ali started Research and Development in fish and shrimp nutrition and feed technology at the famous Narakkal Research Centre of CMFRI, Narakkal (Vypeen Island), Ernakulam District, Kerala State. Dr. Ali obtained his Ph.D. Degree in Shrimp Nutrition from the Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin. He was one of faculty members for the M.Sc. Mariculture Course at the Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Mariculture at CMFRI, Cochin. The CAS in Mariculture Programme at CMFRI hosted renowned international nutrition scientists Prof. Akio Kanazawa of Kagoshima University, Japan and Prof. Takeshi Watanabe of Tokyo University of Fisheries, Japan. This gave Dr. Syed Ahamad Ali an opportunity to work with these expert fish and shrimp nutritionists and act as one of the counterparts to these Professors. When the subject matter specific Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture was established at Chennai by the ICAR, Dr. Ali became part this institute and established fish and shrimp nutrition and feed technology research as the Head of the department. Dr. Ali is a recognized guide of the University of Madras and guided students leading to Ph. D. Dr. Syed Ahamad Ali represented CIBA in Food and Agriculture Organization of UNO on Expert Workshop on "Use of feed and fertilizer for sustainable aquaculture development", 18-21 March 2006, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and P.R. China and presented two countries' status papers. Dr. Ali also worked as a consultant in Fish and Shrimp Nutrition and Feed Technology for the World Fish Centre in Bangladesh. The Author, to his credit has sixty scientific publications in peer reviewed International and National Scientific journals, seventeen books, bulletins and research manuals and five major reports.
