Veda is the foundation to Indian beliefs, culture, tradition and religious practices. Veda is the ancient treasure of knowledge. It's root word is 'Vid' which means knowledge. In ancient times India preached the great teachings, sharing culture and knowledge with other countries. Scholars of the world agreed and praised that Rgveda is the first book in the international book treasury. Veda is not for one country or one race but it is for every citizen of the world because it guides the human race to ultimate reality. Every Indian should feel proud of this great heritage. Is it enough to recite vedas or is it necessary to learn the meaning? If we look into the opinions of the ancient scholars, we understand that it is mandatory to learn the meaning. Sayana in his Veda Bhashya told that it was recommended to know the meaning of veda along with recitation. Studying veda without knowing the meaning is not fruitful, like a log placed away from fire cannot ignite. The new findings by scientists are called inventions. The present generation is in touch with these modern concepts and gadgets of science and live in the mechanical world. As a result they face stress, strain, restlessness and mental imbalance. They are not aware of the useful knowledge from our ancient scriptures. For example, subjects like yoga which lead man towards tranquility of mind and stability are not included in the curriculum. It is the responsibility of present generation to expose the future generation to the knowledge from our ancient scriptures which will guide them to know our roots and to live amicably and amiably. So far, the commentaries on vedas dealt with the rituals, traditions, duties etc., to be followed by people and the paths to be followed by the seekers to reach higher spiritual state. Vedic scholars have not yet approached vedas with a scientific perspective. The present book is a careful methodical study and scientific interpretation of vedas in comparison with modern science, taking the aid of standard reference books.
